Campion, Wolmer’s Girls win in ISSA table tennis
TWO urban girls’ matches were contested on Monday, as the ISSA/Security Professionals Table Tennis Competition continued.
In Under-19, Campion blanked Hillel 3-0 and in Under-16, Wolmer’s Girls turned back Immaculate 3-1.
Campion are coached by Sandra Riettie, Hillel by Peter Daley, Wolmer’s Girls by Clive Grossett, and Immaculate by Carl Lee.
Defending champions in Under-19 are Immaculate, and defending champions in Under-16 are Campion, who are not contesting Under-16 this year.
In Under-19, Campion extended their lead atop the standing with Monday’s win. They are now on 11 points ahead of both Immaculate and Meadowbrook on seven points apiece, and Hillel on five points. Campion have played all their matches, both Meadowbrook and Hillel each have one match left to play, and Immaculate have two matches remaining. The top two finishers will contest the final.
Wolmer’s Girls jumped to the lead in Under-16 Girls Group One with Monday’s triumph, which took them to five points. They are followed by Immaculate on four points and Hillel on three points. Both Wolmer’s Girls and Immaculate have one match left to play, while Hillel have two matches remaining. The top two finishers will advance to semi-finals.
In individual results in the Campion vs Hillel Under-19 encounter, Janique Lee overwhelmed Ashanti Chambers 3-0, Isabelle Chin eased past Shwe Myanmar 3-0, and Tainya Henry outscored Michelle Faulkner 3-1, for Campion’s 3-0 triumph.
Reigning national champion Dadrian Lewis won two matches for Wolmer’s Girls in the Under-16 duel against Immaculate, overpowering both Daniele Blair and Duvania Evans by similar 3-0 scores. Troy-Ann Anderson cruised past Evans 3-0, to secure Wolmer’s Girls’ third victory, as Shantel Hughes strolled past Mordicia Scott 3-0, to pull one back for Immaculate.
