Always strive for excellence, Sharp urges Wolmer’s girls
SCOTIABANK Jamaica President and CEO Jacqueline Sharp has urged Upper Sixth form students at Wolmer’s Girls School to always strive for excellence, especially in today’s dynamic and rapidly changing working world where technology keeps evolving.
“Make yourself stand out as a team player by appreciating everyone’s point of view,” Sharp said.
“Do not second-guess yourself. Take the risk and have a passion for what you do; be positive, focused and strive to be excellent and you will be successful in life.” Sharp was the guest speaker at ‘The Chairman’s Forum’ held at the School on February 11.
The Chairman’s Forum, the brainchild of Wolmer’s Trust Chairman Milton Samuda, aims to have role models and exemplars speak to the Sixth Form students at both Wolmer’s Boys’ and Girls’ about the changes taking place at this crucial stage in their lives as they commence the transition from high school to university.
The forum, which started in 2011, also aims to inform the young men and women about the changes taking place across the world and to equip them with the self-worth necessary to thrive in the everchanging global landscape.
Sharp, in her address, told the students that her innate ability to be solutions-oriented, her ‘can-do’ attitude as well as being passionate about her job, have allowed her to be where she is today.
Both in her remarks and in the lively question-and-answer session which followed, Sharp encouraged the students to be confident as women as they enter the next phase of their lives.
Drawing on personal experience, she demonstrated how confidence and the ability to embrace challenges, and even risk could lead to personal and career growth.
