U-17s sweep basketball series with Cayman school
JAMAICA’s Under-17s swept their two-match basketball friendly series 2-0 against John Gray High School from the Cayman Islands at the Montego Bay Cricket Club in Montego Bay on Thursday.
The Caymanians won only one game in their four-match tour, beating St George’s College, while losing to national schoolboy Under-16 champions Calabar High School.
Jamaica had taken a 1-0 lead over John Gray in the first game of their 2-0 match series with a 69-44 win at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Bowl on Ash Wednesday.
In the second game at the Montego Bay Sports Club last Thursday, the Jamaicans won
60-33, leading at each quarter
18-8, 30-17 (half-time), 40-26 and ending at 60-33 points.
The principal scorers for the Jamaicans were Gregory Wallace, with 16 points, three steals and two assists, Okeme Buckley six points and five rebounds, Maliek McCarthy five points, with six rebounds, while Trevain Wellesly got 10 points for John Gray High School.
In John Gray’s only win on the tour, they defeat St George’s College 50-31 with Albis Amaya scoring 16 points, including 20 rebounds, while Shaquille Allen got nine points for St George’s College.
