Arnett cruise to 3-0 win
ARNETT Gardens FC confirmed their top performing status in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) with a 3-0 win over Barbican FC at the Barbican field on Sunday.
A 10th-minute goal from Andrew Phang, an own goal in minute 55th and another goal from Leon Strickland 29 minutes from time carried Arnett Gardens to their 16th win of the season that pushed their lead to eight points clear at the top of the standings on 51 points.
While taking full advantage of a plucky but luckless Barbican, Arnett Gardens suffered a setback in minute 36 when dependable central defender, Anthowe Dawkins, fell awkwardly just outside his penalty area and dislocated his left shoulder. He had to leave the field and his place taken by Jamar Martin.
“This was another three points in the bag,” said winning coach Jerome Waite. “We did not have to extend ourselves too much. However, our major concern is the injury to Anthowe Dawkins. He will be missed, but we have other players who can rise to the occasion for us to continue doing well,” Waite added.
Despite losing two back-to-back games against teams that appear to be more co-ordinated than Barbican at the moment, coach Marvin Tate had praises for his players.
“I must congratulate my players for playing above their own expectations. And for this, I think I have seen a lot of positives from the guys who played today,” he said.
