Defending champs welcome in-form TG to WesPow Park
A tantalising contest between third- and fourth-placed teams will highlight today’s games when Montego Bay United host Tivoli Gardens FC in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) football competition.
Kick-off is set for 3:00 pm at WesPow Park in St James.
Montego Bay, the defending champions, are third with 40 points from 24 matches, but have won only once in their last five outings. Montego Bay’s frustration was compounded in the midweek encounter versus Rivoli United when they gave up a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2.
Tivoli Gardens, on the other hand, have hit a purple patch, winning their last three games and four of the last five. The West Kingston-based team has 38 points and hold on to the fourth and final semi-final spot.
As teams look to cement their progress through to the semi-finals, both are expected to be at each other’s throats from the first whistle.
In another game, leaders Arnett Gardens FC, who have 48 points, travel to the Barbican Sports Complex to face cellar team Barbican FC (21 points), starting at 3:00 pm.
Arnett Gardens, the standout team so far this season, recovered from two straight losses to record a 1-0 win over Waterhouse in their previous game.
Newly promoted Barbican, wallowing at the foot of the table, have drawn three and lost two of their five previous games.
At the Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland, the hosts Reno FC take on Boys’ Town FC, beginning at 3:00 in the afternoon.
Reno, the former national champions, are 11th in the 12-team points standing and occupy one of two relegation places. They have only 21 points from their 24 games and only shade Barbican due to a superior goal difference. Boys’ Town are ninth with 26 points.
At 5:00 pm, fifth-placed Humble Lion FC (35 points) will welcome seventh-placed Rivoli United (34 points) to the Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon.
In another encounter in the parish of Clarendon, the home team Sporting Central FC match wits with Kingston & St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) team Cavalier SC at Juici Park.
Sporting Central have been struggling close to relegation peril for much of the campaign and are currently in 10th place on 24 points from 23 matches. Sporting Central’s midweek game against hosts Harbour View FC was called off prematurely due to a power outage at the venue. Harbour View were leading 1-0 at the time.
Cavalier, boosted by winning their previous three games, are eighth with 33 points from 24 outings.
In a clash of KSAFA outfits in tomorrow’s Monday Night live televised game, the mighty pair of Waterhouse FC and Harbour View will do battle at the Drewsland Mini-Stadium.
The game is slated to begin at 8:30 pm.
Waterhouse are second in the league with 48 points from 24 matches, while Harbour View are sixth with 34 points from 23 outings. Both teams have lost their previous two games, but given the rivalry which exists, spectators can expected a spirited contest.
