Sharp focus
Jacqueline Sharp, president & CEO of Scotiabank, Jamaica challenged the upper sixth students of Wolmer’s Girls to always strive for excellence, especially in today’s working world where it is dynamic, rapidly changing and technology is ever evolving.
Sharp was the guest speaker at ‘The Chairman’s Forum’ held at Wolmer’s School for Girls on Wednesday, February 11, 2015.
In her message, she shared that her innate ability to be solutions oriented, positive can do attitude as well as being passionate about her job, has allowed her to be where she is today.
Sharp’s poise and grace shone through as she shared what it takes to be successful in this ever growing market.
“Make yourself stand out as a team player by appreciating everyone’s point of view,” she said. “Do not second guess yourself, take the risk and have a passion for what you do; be positive, focused and strive to be excellent and you will be successful in life.”
Both in her remarks and in the lively question and answer session which followed, Sharp encouraged the students to be confident as women as they enter the next phase of their lives.
Drawing on personal experience, she demonstrated how confidences and the ability to embrace challenges and even risk, could lead to personal and career growth.
The Chairman’s Forum, the brainchild of Wolmer’s Trust Chairman, Milton Samuda since 2011, aims to have role models and exemplars speak to the sixth form students of Wolmer’s Boys and Wolmer’s Girls, about the changes taking place at this crucial stage in their lives as the commence the transition from high school to university.
The Forum also aims to inform the young men and women about the changes taking place across the world and to equip them with the self-worth necessary to thrive in the ever-changing global landscape.
