Much A ‘do About Hair
Music’s finest stepped out in fine style at the 57th annual Grammy Awards held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California last Sunday night. Viewers got the chance to see their faves dolled up and dressed to the nines for music’s biggest night. Your Under The Dryer mane squad shows you how to recreate some of the evening’s ‘do’s.
Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande stunned in a white Versace Spring 2014 one-shoulder gown with matching Versace white pumps and a grey purse. Staying true to her ponytail ‘do, Grande opted for a darker sleek ponytail than the honey blonde look we’d usually see. The perfect ponytail is easy to recreate at home!

1 Apply the new Herbal Essences Wild Naturals Illuminating Dry Oil Spray to hair to make it frizz free. Apply on damp or dry hair.
2 After hair is dry, brush hair upwards and secure with an elastic band.
3 Take a section of the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic to conceal it.
Iggy Azalea
Iggy Azalea wore a royal blue Armani Privé capped sleeve gown with sheer panelling and a nude palette on the face. The stylist known to create some of Rihanna’s most edgy looks – Ursula Stephen – created the crown braid ‘do worn by Azalea.
Get The Look – Crown Braid by Ursula Stephen
Stephen – “I sectioned the hair in two and did two cornrows going upward. What took a little time is shaping it. After I braided it, I pulled on segments of the braid to puff it out. I wanted to give it more of an editorial feel and mess it up a little bit and show the segments. I wanted her to feel regal and elegant and queen-like. That was my vision.”
How to achieve Iggy Azalea’s crown braid look:
1 Part the hair into two even sections.
2 Cornrow both sides of the hair, starting from the nape.
3 Using your fingertips, apply Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade for a sleek finish.
4 Secure each braid with rubber bands.
5 Pull each section of the braids, starting at the bottom, to loosen and puff the braids.
6 Overlap the two braids, pull them together and pin upwards to keep in place.
7 Finish by spritzing with Motions Light Hold Working Spritz.
Jessie J
Jessie J opted for a sleek, edgy ‘do. The Bang Bang singer, by way of her hairstylist Alisha Dobson, had her hair slicked back in a side-part, in homage to The Matrix’s Trinity.
JHud
One of the runway’s most sought-after hairstylists and JHud’s mane man Cesar Ramirez styled her hair in a jet black edgy pixie, the perfect complement to her white Tom Ford bodycon and Dsquared2 mixed-metallic stilettos.
Katy Perry
Fresh from last week’s Super Bowl half-time performance, Perry switched gears from her signature jet black ponytail to a purple ombré wavy bob. For her stylish ‘do, Perry credits top editorial hairstylist Shon Hyungsun Ju.
Rita Ora
Rita Ora rocked a long-sleeved, high-neck shimmering sequinned Prada gown – a dazzling complement to her spiky, side-swept fringe pixie ‘do. Adding another notch under his belt, Rita’s hairstylist and British Vogue.com’s ‘hair star’ Christopher Appleton created yet another winning look.
Sia and Maddie Ziegler
Sia invited her mini-me – the star of her Chandelier music video – Maddie Ziegler to the 57th annual Grammy Awards. The two co-ordinated hair and outfits to create the much-talked-about cropped hair wigs. Maddie’s hair was similar to the style she wore in the music video – a crimped wig with blunt bangs, while Sia went all out with a larger-than-life cropped blonde wig, hiding all but her bright red lipstick. There, there, Sia, no need to hide, we all know what you look like under there!
Taylor Swift
Taylor opted for a smokey eye with a hint of colour. To even out the look, she chose a mauve-pink lipstick. She had just a hint of blush on her cheeks. Get a similar eye look by layering Laura Mercier’s Attitude Longwear Crème Eye Pencil over black eyeliner.

Zendaya Coleman
Coleman traded her long, flowing tresses for a pixie ‘do at last Sunday’s show. The singer/actress told TV Guide Network’s red carpet reporters that she is in fact wearing a wig as she felt like sporting a short ‘do without chopping her trademark locks.
