Eight-member junior tennis team leaves for Florida
MONTEGO BAY, St James —
A team of eight junior tennis players, ages nine-to
18-years-old, is set to leave the island tomorrow for Florida, where they will compete in three tournaments over the next week.
The team is being led by former national female number one player Maureen Rankine.
While in South Florida, the players will also get
a chance to train at
top-class facilities.
They will participate in the Team Challenge to be held at Russell Tennis Academy, Silver Lakes; Pembroke Pines Junior tournament at the Paul Maxwell Tennis Centre
and Nunez NTRP Challenge at Nunez Tennis Training Centre on West Dixie Highway.
Included on the team are the number two ranked Jamaican junior male player Nicholas Malcolm of Ocho Rios; 19-year-old Horatio Ludford of Glendevon; Oshane Wright of Sandy Bay, Hanover;
17-year-old Tradian Barrett of Salt Spring, who attends St James High; 13-year-old Tariq Simons of Teamwork School; 14-year-old Montego Bay High student Iesha Sterling, a former national Under-12 champion; 10-year-old Abby Perue, who attends Barracks Road Primary and her nine-year-old schoolmate Delano Reeves of Sign, Orange.
