Waterhouse thrash Sporting to close in on leaders
CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon — Waterhouse moved within four points of idled Red Stripe Premier League leaders Arnett Gardens following a 4-0 thrashing of lowly Sporting Central Academy yesterday at Juici Park in Clarendon.
The visiting Drewsland club dominated from start to finish, which manifested in decent individual goals from Hughan Gray, Andre Leslie and DeAndre Brown. But the pick of the bunch came from second-half substitute Brown, who rifled home a left-footed, long-range effort in the 86th minute to crown his team performance.
They had earlier raced into a second-minute lead when Sporting defender Dale Watson inadvertently turned a ricocheted Jermaine Anderson effort into his own net.
Anthony Patrick’s side then increased their lead on the stroke of half-time through former Sporting player Gray, who received a short corner from Romario Campbell before dribbling unopposed into the box to beat goalkeeper Allien Whittaker with a low shot.
Andre Leslie then ended the game as a contest in minute 51 when he picked up a loose ball and fired in off the upright. And, with the victory, Waterhouse have now increased their tally to 41 points, four adrift of Arnett Gardens who play away to Humble Lion tonight in Clarendon.
Meanwhile, for Sporting, defeat means that they have now failed to register a win in their last six outings, which means the south-west Clarendon side who remained on 21 points, the same as Reno, have now slipped into the relegation zone on goal difference.
In other games, Rivoli United defeated Harbour View 2-0 courtesy of a double strike from Kemar Beckford in the 80th and 90+5 minutes, while champions Montego Bay crashed to a identical 2-0 defeat to Tivoli Gardens at WesPow Park. Scoring for the victors Barrington Pryce (30th minute) and Jamoy Sibbles (90+3).
At Stadium East, goals by Chevonne Marsh (26th), Oshane Jenkins (38th) and Jeffrey Henry (58th) led Cavalier to a 3-0 win over Boys’ Town.
