Performance incentives for racing professionals
Owners, trainers, jockeys and grooms will now be able to receive extra earnings based on a new incentive scheme announced by promoting company Caymanas Track Limited on Tuesday.
The incentive scheme which will be given monthly and includes sponsors such as Pure Water, Burger King, Cal’s Manufacturing, Alex Imports, L P Azar, HAM Stables, Flex Pak Limited, Poly Pet and Tack Room & Supplies among others.
The winning owner at the end of each month will receive 20 bags of feed, the winning trainer $30,000, the jockey with the most wins will walk away with $20,000, and $5,000 will go to the winning groom. If there is a tie, the incentives will be shared equally.
There will also be cash incentives for the winners and runners-up in each category at the end of the 2015 racing year.
The overall owner is set to take home $250,000, the runner-up $125,000, the winning trainer will receive $150,000 and runner-up $75,000; $100,000 will go to the winning jockey and $50,000 for the runner-up, while the winning groom will get $50,000 and the runner-up $25,000.
Denzil Miller, CTL’s racing secretary, said that the new promotion is aimed at building racing.
“This promotion is designed to increase competition among horsemen, improve public awareness while offering great opportunities to showcase our sponsors and their products to Jamaica,” Miller explained.
“For the monthly winner, the presentation of prizes will be done in the winner’s enclosure on the first non-sponsored raceday of the following month.
“On January 1, 2016 (Fan Appreciation Day), the 2015 champion owner, trainer, jockey and groom will be presented with their trophies and the cash incentives,” he added.
