Endless Wuk for DJ Alley
Endless Wuk is the hot soca mix tape from disc jockey DJ Alley. The 76-track project features some of the biggest soca jams released throughout the Caribbean in the past year.
Among the tracks are Raze by Fay Ann Lyons, Lucy (Destra), Vagabond (Ricardo Drue), Endless Wuk and Remedy by Machel Montano.
For the past four years, DJ Alley (real name Kevin Carty) has manned the Close Range sound system. Originally from Vere in Clarendon, he has been involved with sound systems since he was a teenager.
“I was very fortunate that a small sound system was in my district. I use to go around and watch the older guys play so one day I asked if I could get a chance to play and the rest is history,” said DJ Alley.
That ‘small’ sound system was X5 Sound which gave him the experience to move on to Guyana where he played with the Slingerz Family Sound. After his tenure in Guyana, he returned to Jamaica in 2011 where he started Close Range.
He is strongly influenced by the veteran sound systems.
“I’m a strong believer in how sound system used to be played back in the older days, from world clash and because of that belief I play very aggressive,” he said. “I can be a clash sound and a juggling sound as well.”
The former Garvey Maceo High School student was runner-up (in a field of 20) in the 2011 Fully Loaded Boom 45 Shootout.
His upcoming gigs include tomorrow’s Soca Sip at the University of the West Indies), Drink N Rave Anniversary in Ocho Rios (March 12), Intoxicated Bacchanal Rave in Harbour View (March 13) and in St Maarten on March 21.
