A time to reap
MANNING and daCosta Cup champions Jamaica College and Clarendon College respectively revelled in the fruits of their labour at the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) football presentation ceremony at Terra Nova Hotel yesterday.
Along with officially being crowned champions in their respective division, both team also walked away with some key individual awards.
However, former daCosta Cup champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) were not to be outdone and they, too, were featured prominently at the awards ceremony.
Jamaica College’s captain Junior Flemming and Donjay Smith of St Elizabeth Technical walked away with the awards for most goals scored throughout the competitions with 32 and 18 goals, respectively.
The two were then named winners of the Golden Boot award for most goals scored from the second round of competitions. Flemmings netted seven, while Smith had nine goals to his name.
The 19-year-old Flemmings was also named Most Valuable Player of the urban area tournament and Zane Reid of Clarendon College walked away with the rural area equivalent for his seven goals and seven assists.
Jamaica College were named Most Attacking and Defensive Team for the Manning Cup, scoring 56 goals while only conceding five. St Elizabeth Technical were named Most Attacking Team of the daCosta Cup with 49 goals and Clarendon College were named Most Defensive conceding only five goals.
Clarendon College accumulated 158 points to win the Most Disciplined Team award with Charlie Smith High (148) and Jamaica College (141) being the runners-up.
Jamaica College’s Miguel Coley and Ian Forbes were named coach and manager of the year, respectively, in the urban area, while Patrick ‘Jackie’ Walters and Richard Palmer of Clarendon College copped the rural area equivalent.
St George’s College and St Elizabeth Technical were officially crowned champions of the Walker Cup and Ben Francis Cup knockout competitions, while Jamaica College took home the Olivier Shield — the symbol of all-island supremacy.
Charlie Smith High and St Elizabeth Technical were awarded for their efforts as runners-up of both competitions.
