Vibes machine
STUDENTS and teachers of Oracabessa High School in St Mary put on a full showcase for teenAGE Observer team, along with sponsors Flow and AAMM Credit Union as the teenAGE Observer Expresssion Tours stopped at their school last Tuesday.
The concert was hosted by teachers Miss Daniels and Miss Taylor, who worked to keep students excited. The duo proved to be even more entertaining than some of the performers.
First Lesha Howard performed a dub poem I Cry/Ambition.
The Energy Club then presented an original piece Shine Me Light.
The Daniels/Taylor team came to the rescue, and proved that teachers can dance as well as (or even better than) the students. They danced with great agility as DJ Cash Price played hit after hit.
Shortly after, Janelle Bird won herself a giveaway courtesy of teenAGE Observer, the all-girl Top Vibes dance group took the stage. The students welcomed their high-energy routine with applause and cheers.
The same level of support was extended to the Hot Star Dancers, as they performed their highly technical robotic routine
Member of staff Mr Webb started the deejay segment of the competition. Through his piece Unity, he set an example for the next deejays, Jamoy Davis and Company. The boys initiated a friendly clash on stage. The students applauded at the lyrical crossfire.
Miss Crosby ran very excitedly to the stage to answer a question from sponsors AAMM Credit Union.
Shanice Allen then graced the stage to give her rendition of Chris Brown’s Crawl.
There was a brief intermission during which the Hot Star Dancers gave an encore performance. Brave audience members also took to the stage to engage in a dance-off.
Tasheka Davis reopened the programme, then Vanessa Richards. In-between performances, Kaydean Treasure won herself a gift from Flow.
More dancers took to the stage, while the judges tallied their scores.
The Shift 1 vice-principal used the opportunity to show the youngsters a few moves.
Later the students were treated to a special performance from Dancin’ Dynamites contestants Outlaw Rockers, which they enjoyed.
The winners of the competition were then announced.
In third place was the deejay duo Jamoy Davis and Company, while Hot Star Dancers won second place.
The ladies of the Top Vibes Dance troupe walked away as the winners, and will be representing their school at the finals of the teenAGE Observer Expression Tours later this year.
Judges for the day were Zhane Norman, Students’ Council President, Sukanya Duncan head girl, and Ade Hamilton head boy.
