St Catherine North police intensify operations
THE St Catherine North Police, with divisional headquarters based in Spanish Town, have intensified their operational activities in response to the recent spate of murders in the division.
The division’s head, Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth said the police have increased their operational outputs to unprecedented levels in the interest of decent, law abiding citizens.
The senior superintendent, who attributed most of the recent murders committed in the division to gang-related activities, gave an assurance that the police would be occupying public spaces and dominating major thoroughfares in a bid to disrupt gang activities, and deny criminals the opportunity to move about and commit crimes with impunity.
According to the police, the last few weeks have seen a series of coordinated operations throughout the division, which led to the seizure of several firearms, ammunition and the fatal shooting of reputed gang leader Michael ‘Tullus’ Morgan and his accomplice Ricardo Nicholas, otherwise called ‘Stinger’, who were fatally shot in the community of New Nursery, Spanish Town last Friday when they reportedly engaged the lawmen in a gun battle.
The police have, meanwhile, warned members of the public that it is a criminal offence to harbour criminals, and if found culpable they would face the full extent of the law.
The police have also urged members of the public to play their part in the fight against crime, and support them in making Jamaica a safer place by calling Crime Stop at 311, 811, police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station to report all crimes or suspicious activities in their areas.
