‘Tuffy’ lights the way
WATERHOUSE put in a spirited final 20 minutes to beat Cavalier 2-1 in a valiant come-from-behind effort in their Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) game at Drewsland on Sunday.
The club’s leading marksman Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson and second-half substitute Andre Leslie scored the goals that dug Waterhouse out of a hole to keep them in second place on 38 points behind leaders Arnett Gardens on 44, who were scheduled to meet third-placed Montego Bay United (35) at the Anthony Spaulding Sport Complex last night.
Norman Bailey scored for Cavalier.
The loss did not help the cause of Cavalier who played a high-intensity game as they fought to remain in the top-six with the hope of contesting the all-important third round.
Waterhouse, who survived a certain shutout against Boys’ Town in another RSPL game at Collie Smith Drive the previous Sunday, were reeling at 0-1 down when lights on the eastern section of the playing facility went out.
Waterhouse seemed to have profited from the outage that lasted for some 20 minutes. Two minutes into the resumption, Anderson climbed high above the Cavalier defence to bring the teams level. Five minutes after the restart, regular starter and front man Andre Leslie, who appeared as a second-half substitute in place of defender Oshane Roberts, was on target inside one minute of being on the field.
“It was a good victory for us. I feel quite pleased with the effort of the team in the second half… and it was good to see young Leslie coming on as a substitute and delivered,” said Waterhouse coach, Anthony Patrick.
Cavalier president, Rudolph Speid, was not entirely happy with at least one refereeing decision.
“Before the lights went out in the second half we were doing well, and after the lights came back, the referee just gave them (Waterhouse) the ball when we had the ball in our possession. That is what is puzzling to us,” he said.
