Panama dominate CONCACAF U-20 All-Star team
CATHERINE HALL, St James — Losing finalists Panama dominated the selections on the all-tournament team for the just-concluded CONCACAF Under-20 Championship with five selections, including the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Luis Perreira and the Best Goalkeeper Jaime De Gracia.
Panama were beaten 4-2 on penalty kicks by Mexico in the final after they had played out a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Saturday evening.
Champions Mexico had four selections, while the USA who were third, had two.
De Gracia, who allowed just one goal in six games through the tournament, was voted Best Goalkeeper and was named along with defenders Chin Hormechea and Kevin Galvan, Perreira and striker Ismael Diaz.
Mexico had defender Rodrigo Gonzalez, midfielders Erick Gutierrez and Hirving Lozano and striker Alejandro Diaz, while the UA had defender Shaquell Moore and midfielder Romain Gall in the all-star line-up.
Lozano and Gall shared the Golden Boot award for most goals after each scored five, while the USA were given the Fairplay Award.
