Waterhouse look to close gap on RSPL leaders
THE trailing pack in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) will get the chance to at least temporarily trim the gap on leaders Arnett Gardens FC in this week’s action.
Arnett Gardens, with 44 points from 20 matches, will not feature until the live televised encounter against title-holders Montego Bay United tomorrow night at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in South St Andrew.
As champions, Montego Bay United would enter most games as favourites, but the rampaging winning streak of the hosts hands them an advantage. Arnett have won their last 10 games in the RSPL, said to be the longest run of consecutive wins in the local Premier League.
Montego Bay, with only one win in their previous five games, have 35 points and sit in third place.
Waterhouse FC, on 35 points, but in second due to scoring more goals than Montego Bay, will today host eighth-placed Cavalier SC at the Drewsland Stadium, starting at 6:00 pm.
Coached by Anthony Patrick, Waterhouse were top of the pile just weeks ago, until a losing rut dented their progression. However, they have recovered somewhat and are unbeaten in their last three games.
Cavalier, guided by Rudolph Speid, have endured a miserable spell since being the pacesetters in the opening stages of the 2014-15 RSPL season. They have 24 points and have not won in their previous five outings.
At 6:30 pm, fourth-placed Harbour View FC (33 points) welcome resurgent Humble Lion FC (28 points) to the Harbour View Stadium. Humble Lion, who have won five on the trot, are in sixth place.
In a clash at the Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland, 11th-placed Reno FC (19 points) take on ninth-placed visitors Sporting Central FC (20 points) at 3:00 pm.
Also at 3:00 pm, 10th-placed Boys’ Town FC (20 points) entertain fifth-placed Rivoli United (29 points) at the Collie Smith Complex.
At the Edward Seaga Sports Complex in West Kingston, seventh-placed Tivoli Gardens FC (28 points) lock horns with struggling RSPL first-timers Barbican FC at 3:00 pm.
The promoted Barbican outfit occupy last spot in the 12-team standings with 18 points.
