My Kingston — Ramon Pitter
Ramon Pitter
Title: VP — Investment Banking and Group Mergers & Acquisitions
Company: NCB Capital Markets Limited
What are your earliest memories of Kingston?
I remember spending a lot of time at the Sovereign Centre growing up. Hanging out with friends, eating food, going to the movies. Hard for me to think about my childhood in Kingston without that coming to mind.
What do you miss when you’re not in Kingston?
Definitely family and friends.
What are your favourite home comforts?
Good music, good friends, and Sunday Formula One races.
What would you do if you were mayor (of Kingston) for a day?
Anything that helps to develop the waterfront area downtown. There is so much potential for that area.
Share with us the title of the last book you read.
Sporting Clays Consistency: You Gotta Be Out of Your Mind by Gil & Vicki Ash.
What’s your middle name?
Alexander.
And the last bit of music that stirred your soul?
James Bay — Let it go.
What was your last bit of retail therapy?
An iPhone 6. I actually switched from iOS to Android about two years ago to try it out because I’ve been an iPhone user since the first one and just wanted a change. I couldn’t resist going back though, once they made the larger screen.
Which cologne are you currently splashing?
I’m actually a fairly light user of cologne, but my go-to fragrance is D&G Light Blue.
Which is your preferred beverage?
I’ll never turn down a Jameson and Ginger.
What upsets you?
Poor follow-up definitely upsets me.
What’s new on your project storyboard?
Lately, work has taken up most of my free time and, unfortunately, most of my work projects are confidential, but I do believe we (at NCB) are working on some interesting projects that the public will see in the near future. In my free time I’ve been teaching myself HTML code to be able to do a bit more with my racing blog website.
Share with us a few of your ‘chill’ spots…
Chez Maria restaurant, the movies, and Jamaica Skeet Club.
What’s your advice to a first-time visitor to Kingston?
Try the sushi in Kingston. It’s pretty good for a country this far from Japan. And if you have the time, check out some of the stores that feature some of our local artists. Visiting the once-a-year markets like Conversation Piece is also a great place to see unique artwork.
What’s your philosophy?
I’ve fallen in love with this Finnish term ‘SISU’ in recent years. It doesn’t translate to English perfectly, but it essentially means absolute determination and resilience in the face of adversity. I’ve adopted it somewhat, as I think that’s the type of attitude you need to approach life with every day.
