Brain Tumour Classic targets $5 million
The annual Brain Tumor Classic Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, January 31, in Montego Bay at the Cinnamon Hill Golf course, Rose Hall.
Heineken returns as title sponsor for the second consecutive year.
Dr Carl Bruce, consultant neurosurgeon at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), revealed that the objective of the event is to raise $5 million to purchase surgical machines for the hospital.
“This year, we will be using the proceeds from our annual golf tournament to purchase an anaesthetic machine and a surgical machine (for spinal injuries) for the University Hospital of the West Indies,” he said.
He also said that the support received at last year’s event was overwhelming the organisers were more than happy with the turnout. They are hoping that they will get a similar level of support this year and look forward to an amazing day of golf.
“We were overwhelmed with the support we received last year as people came out in their numbers to be a part of this charitable event. The partnership with Heineken has been very good. They have been contributing a lot and continue to do so. We look forward to another partnership this year,” said Bruce.
Heineken brand manager Imru James said the brand was pleased to be a part of the event.
“The tournament is geared towards providing hospitals with necessary equipment to aid in saving lives and we are happy to partner with the CANS team to help them achieve their goals. Also, the event brings out a nice cross-section of golfers,” he noted.
