BT, Waterhouse share spoils
BOYS’ Town and Waterhouse played to an exciting 0-0 draw in their second round Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) game at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.
The share of the points moved Waterhouse to 35 points to remain second to Arnett Gardens, who moved to 44 points in the standings after beating Barbican 1-0 at Barbican Complex. Boys’ Town moved up a point to join Sporting Central Academy on 20, though much has not changed for the Collie Smith Drive boys in their positioning in the standing.
In other games: Harbour View and Montego Bay United drew 0-0; Tivoli Gardens overran Sporting Central 6-2 at Juici Park; and Cavalier and Reno ended 0-0, for their record breaking 10th straight win in the Premier League.
Both teams came close to scoring, but it was Waterhouse, who were let off the hook following some poor finishing from ‘Boys’ Town.
Head coach Andrew Price said: “We had lots of possession, and with more composure and a little luck we could have got something more than a draw out of the game.”
Marcel Gayle, the Waterhouse assistant coach, said: Boys’ Town succeeded in stifling our play, as they did not allow us to play our natural game. We played in patches, but it just did not come off for us today.”
It was not surprising that the game ended as it did. Waterhouse have a poor win record at Collie Smith Drive where they either lose or draw.
With Boys’ Town pride wounded at sitting one step above the drop zone, they came at Waterhouse with great intensity from the opening whistle and were there blasting away at the final whistle when they had a glorious chance of sealing all three points. But according to coach Price, the “lack of composure in front of goal robbed us of the victory”.
While Boys’ Town dominated play for long periods, it took a fantastic save by goalkeeper Kirk Porter from Hughan Gray to keep the Collie Smith Drive outfit to leave the field without conceding.
Goalkeeper Kelso Cousins also made some timely and breathtaking interceptions to help Waterhouse keep a clean sheet.
