In an effort to create a healthier population in Jamaica, especially among Jamaicans aged 50 years and older, the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ) has partnered with the Caribbean Community of Retired Persons (CCRP) to host a workshop as part of its ‘Healthy Population Campaign,’ scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, at Sts Peter & Paul Church in Kingston. Discussing the workshop last week were: (standing from left) Dr Shane Alexis, president of the MAJ; Jean Lowrie-Chin, Founder/CEO of CCRP; Verla Seymour, CCRP member; (seated from left) Dorett Linton, coordinator of CCRP, Irene Walter, chairperson of CCRP Caring Committee, and Karen Gauntlett, CCRP member. The ‘Healthy Population Campaign’ was recently launched as part of the MAJ’s 50th anniversary celebrations which will be commemorated this year. The campaign is aimed at increasing public awareness about the need to practice healthy lifestyles and to reduce the risk factors for obesity and its associated illnesses.
