Waterhouse flow over Reno
A chirpy-looking Waterhouse FC returned to winning form in the Red Stripe Premier League game on Wednesday with a 4-0 buffeting of Reno FC at Drewsland.
Coming at their opponents with the ferocity of a wounded animal, Waterhouse snapped an uninterrupted string of three losses to remain third in the RSPL standing on 31 points, while Reno, who were losing the eighth of their last nine games, remain in 10th position on 15 points.
Juvaune Benjamin scored twice to anchor the victory, but it was Nathaniel Leslie’s 12-minute cameo, which was climaxed by a 90th-minute spectacular acrobatic goal that set football fans talking about the axing of the 18-year-old from the national Under-20 squad.
Entering the fray after three goals had been scored, Leslie’s industry and passing skills immediately had an impact on play.
The 1-0 win by Tivoli Gardens over Waterhouse on Sunday jerked the Drewsland-based team out of its slumber and within six minutes of the opening whistle Tremaine Stewart, in a solo effort that began just above the half line, ended with the midfielder stuffing a well placed left-footed shot beyond the reach of Devaughn Hawthorne.
Benjamin increased the lead with his third goal of the season seven minutes after the restart. Twelve minutes on, he doubled his score before Leslie entered the game for his heroics.
“This is the result we anticipated,” a much-relieved coach Anthony Patrick said.
Reno’s Wendell Downswell thought that the early goal and the way it was allowed to score “did not help much to infuse confidence in the team. And going two down against the run of play from there it was difficult to come back against a quality team as Waterhouse.
“The fact is that we are disappointed in the result itself overall we saw some bright prospects. We have our next game at home against Boys’ Town and we will be doing everything to get ourselves back on track,” Downswell said.
