Arnett on the hunt for 9th straight win
LEADERS Arnett Gardens FC will look to extend their outstanding winning streak in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) when they host Sporting Central FC today at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, starting at 6:00 pm.
Red-hot Arnett, who have 38 points from 18 games, have a four-point advantage over second-placed Montego Bay United and are looking for their ninth straight victory. Sporting, on the other hand, are ninth in the 12-team RSPL table with 20 points and should be desperate to snap a three-game losing slide.
At the Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland, a pair of one-time powerhouses — both struggling this season — will do battle. The 11th-placed Reno FC team (15 points), will entertain 10th-placed Boys’ Town FC (19 points) in a 3:00 pm kick-off.
After returning to top-flight football, Reno had a reasonable start to the campaign, but have since suffered a series of bad results of late, including defeat in their last four games. Not even the recent appointment of Wendell Downswell as head coach has arrested the slide with the Reno stalwart losing his three games in charge so far.
Boys’ Town, guided by Andrew Price, have been inconsistent, winning two of their last five games, while drawing twice and losing once.
Also at 3:00 pm, sixth-placed Tivoli Gardens FC (24 points) welcome eighth-placed Cavalier SC (22 points) to the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.
At 5:00 pm, champions Montego Bay United travel to the Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon to face Humble Lion FC. Montego Bay, who have drawn their last two games, have 34 points, while Humble Lion, winners in their last three outings, are seventh with 22 points, ahead of Cavalier due to a better goal difference.
In the second 6:00 pm kick-off today, a mouth-watering encounter is expected when hosts Waterhouse FC and Rivoli United lock horns at the Drewsland Mini-Stadium. Waterhouse, last season’s runners-up, are fourth with 31 points, while in-form Rivoli United are two points adrift in fifth place.
In the live televised game tomorrow night, third-placed Harbour View FC (32 points) take on promoted Barbican FC at the Harbour View Stadium, starting at 8:30. Barbican, first-timers in the Premier League, trail Reno due to an inferior goal difference and occupy the cellar spot with 15 points.
