Fireworks likely as H’View host Waterhouse
PLENTY of fireworks could be on the cards when the former championship-winning pair of Harbour View FC and Waterhouse FC extend their rivalry in Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at the Harbour View Stadium today, starting at 7:00 pm.
Interestingly, neither team has been particularly outstanding of late.
Leaders Waterhouse, who have 28 points from 14 matches, have seen their advantage trimmed of late after dropping points in three of their last five outings. That leaves them only two points ahead of second-placed Montego Bay United.
Harbour View, lying in fourth with 23 points, have also hit a rough patch, garnering a lone win in their previous five encounters. During that time they also lost once and drew on three occasions.
However, regardless of the form of both teams ahead of the game, the contest is expected to be keenly fought and is likely to feature attractive football.
In another intriguing clash, title-holders Montego Bay, unbeaten in their last four outings, entertain Cavalier SC at the WesPow Park in St James. Kick-off is set for 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
Montego Bay are second with 26 points, while Cavalier are in fifth place with 22 points.
At the Spanish Town Prison Oval in St Catherine, sixth-placed Rivoli United (19 points) take on seventh-placed visitors Tivoli Gardens FC (18 points) in an encounter slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
At 3:00 pm, newly promoted Barbican FC welcome Sporting Central Academy to the Barbican Complex in St Andrew. Barbican, in their first season of Premier League football, are in 10th place with 14 points, while Clarendon-based Sporting Central are eighth with 17 points.
In another 3:00 pm start, cellar team Boys’ Town FC (12 points) travel to Clarendon to battle 11th-placed Humble Lion FC (12 points) at the Effortville Community Centre. The teams are separated in the table due to Humble Lion’s superior goal difference.
In the live televised Monday Night fixture, third-placed Arnett Gardens FC host Reno FC at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, beginning at 8:30.
Arnett Gardens, who are perfect with four wins in their last four outings, have 26 points and rest in third place. Arnett trail Montego Bay only due to an inferior goal difference. Reno, who had a solid start to the campaign, but have lost four of their last five games, are ninth with 15 points.
