Derby showdown
The clash between Tivoli Gardens FC and Arnett Gardens FC at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex will headline today’s matches in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).
The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm.
Despite the gap between reinvigorated Arnett and stuttering Tivoli in the RSPL tables, spectators can expect a hotly contested affair, which is typical when the two meet.
The hosts Tivoli Gardens, who are sixth in the 12-team standings, have 18 points from 13 games. The former champions have been inconsistent so far this season, failing to put together a sustained string of positive results.
The West Kingston-based team, coached by Alvin Shaw, has lost twice in their last five matches, while winning a pair of games. Tivoli’s record since the start of the second round reads one win and one defeat from two games.
Arnett Gardens, who are also former winners, have gradually rolled into good form after an unconvincing start to the 2014-15 campaign. Under the guidance of head coach Jerome Waite, they have climbed to third with 23 points from 13 games.
Arnett, whose recent form has been as good as any in the league, have four victories in their last five outings. The run from the team, based in South St Andrew, includes earning maximum points from two second-round games.
In a clash between teams at opposite ends of the table, last-placed Boys’ Town FC (11 points), host title-holders Montego Bay United at the Collie Smith Complex, beginning at 3:00 pm. Montego Bay are second with 25 points.
Also at 3:00 pm, ninth-placed Reno FC (14 points) will step away from their usual base at the Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland to entertain fourth-placed Harbour View FC (22 points) at the St Elizabeth Technical High School playing field in Santa Cruz.
In another 3:00 pm encounter, seventh-placed Sporting Central Academy (17 points) welcome eighth-placed Rivoli United (16 points) at the Juici Park in Clarendon.
At 6:00 pm, the league leaders Waterhouse FC, beaten in their last game by Montego Bay, are tipped to return to winning ways when they face visitors Humble Lion at the Drewsland Stadium.
Waterhouse have 27 points, while struggling Humble Lion, who are only ahead of Boys’ Town due to a superior goal difference, are 11th with 11 points.
In the live televised Monday Night fixture, fifth-placed Cavalier SC (21 points) host 10th-placed Barbican FC (13 points) at Stadium East.
