‘Tuffy’ double helps Waterhouse soar clear at the top
WATERHOUSE moved five points clear at the top of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) with two bold second-half headers from top striker Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson in a thrilling come-frombehind 2-1 win over Barbican at Drewsland on Monday.
Waterhouse were under severe pressure from Barbican’s lead at the break before Anderson rose like an eagle twice in the second half to calm nerves with two splendidly taken goals.
The three points move the Drewsland outfit to 27 points out front, while Montego Bay United, are second on 22, followed by Cavalier 21 and Arnett Gardens 20 points, rounding out the top four.
With soggy under foot conditions to their liking, Barbican were quicker to the ball, plus they were egged on by their supporters.
Barbican pressed for the opening goal, and with 17 minutes remaining in the half, Jermaine Parris, who was always a thorn in the side of the Waterhouse defenders, put Barbican ahead.
Waterhouse had their moments, too, and should have scored in the first half, but Neicko Williams let his team down when he missed a perfect centre from Anderson and only managed to poke the ball wide.
“I am happy to serve my team in any way I can,” Anderson said afterwards.
“Football is what I do for my livelihood and to get back to scoring goals for Waterhouse after three consecutive games without scoring gives me a good feeling about myself. I am trying to stay fit and stay away from getting cards.
I got one already, but I am trying to stay away from cards as much as I possibly can as my aim for the season is to again win the Golden Boot award,” said the colourful striker.
“I am some way off the target at present but these two goals have taken me to six goals so far for the season and more will come as long as I continue to work and get the support from my teammates.
For without them as you will know, very little is possible,” Anderson added.
