Have a ‘honey’ Christmas
IT is easy to celebrate Christmas with honey. No sugar and no artificial sweeteners are needed, just honey.
Director of Trelawny Premium Apiaries, Remone Carby, shared some tips about honey to make your Christmas baking a bit healthier.
“Honey is sweet – that’s a given. It’s slightly sweeter than sugar, so you’ll need to use less, and because honey is liquid you’ll need less fluid,” said Carby. “But did you know that honey also adds a special touch to almost any recipe?
“…Many people think of honey as a drizzle in desserts or a topping for toast,” Carby reasoned. “But now more than ever, honey is being recognised as a versatile ingredient and pantry staple in the kitchen.
“All-natural honey gives your recipes unbeatable flavour and unmatched functional benefits. From balancing flavours to providing moisture to baked goods, one-ingredient honey performs a slew of tasks, all from one little bottle,” Carby said.
Honey’s versatility
Flavour: Honey does not only impart a unique flavour to any dish, but it also balances and enhances the flavour profiles of other ingredients used in a recipe.
Emulsifier: Honey acts as a binder and thickener for sauces, dressings, marinades, and dips.
Humectant: Honey provides and retains moisture in a variety of dishes and can even extend the shelf life of baked goods.
Christmas without sugar? It’s not an impossible feat. Many people cannot enjoy sugar, whether by choice or due to dietary restrictions. For these people it may be difficult to find sweet treats that reduce or replace sugar, especially when those goodies are store-bought. However, with honey recipes, you can cut down on sugar without sacrificing sweetness this holiday season.
