Arnett host Harbour View in finger-licking showdown
THE second round of the Red Stripe Premier League kicks off today with Arnett Gardens hosting Harbour View in the marquee encounter at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex starting at 6:00 pm.
In other games, Boys’ Town host Sporting Central Academy; Rivoli United travel to Cavalier, Montego Bay United tackle Reno and Tivoli Gardens play Humble Lion.
Leaders and title favourites Waterhouse FC will be in action tomorrow when they host Barbican FC at Drewsland.
With that in mind, the chasing pack will all be trying to close the gap on Waterhouse, and in the high-profile match of the round, Harbour View are out for revenge against Arnett Gardens.
On opening day, Arnett Gardens went to Compound and inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Harbour View courtesy of a Michaelos Martin strike and another intriguing battle is in store at the Complex.
The ‘Stars of the East’ are in fourth spot with 19 points, while Arnett Gardens are in fifth place on 17 points and will be looking to leapfrog them in the table, thus setting the stage for an epic encounter.
Arnett Gardens will again look to Alanzo Adlam, Andre Clennon, Andrew Phang and Oneil Thompson for inspiration as they hunt the double over Harbour View. To achieve that, the in-form Ranique Muir will have to be contained.
Second-placed Cavalier on 23 points could join Waterhouse at the top of the standing if they can get the better of a Rivoli United outfit lying in sixth spot on 15 points.
Cavalier ended a three-game losing streak last week with a comprehensive 3-1 win over Boys’ Town, but will find this Rivoli United team much more difficult to contain, especially with Cory Burke on fire with seven goals this season.
But Cavalier are a well-balanced unit, and in Girvon Brown, Chevonne Marsh and Claudious Blackburn, they can match any team on their day.
Meanwhile champions Montego Bay United up to third on 19 points, travel to promoted Reno FC in eighth spot on 14 points and will have revenge on their mind. Only recently, Reno defeated Montego Bay United to win the all-island Flow Champions Cup and the St James outfit are favoured to avenge that loss despite playing away at Frome.
Fresh from their upset win over Montego Bay last week, seventh-placed Tivoli Gardens (15 points) welcome a struggling Humble Lion team down in 11th spot with just eight points.
But despite winning just twice from 11 games and falling into the relegation one, Humble Lion are a dangerous bunch and are expected to start a positive run soon and it could start today against Tivoli Gardens.
Bottom-placed Boys’ Town with eight points are in desperate need of a win when they host ninth-placed Sporting Central Academy on 14 points at Collie Smith Drive. Sporting Central had won their first encounter 3-0 and will be looking to repeat that form, but will find Boys’ Town a more stubborn opponent this time around.
