Jamaica’s golfing star Brown captures another title
JAMAICA’S rising golfing star Wesley Brown continued his recent good form, capturing the Do Dare Charity Professional category event at Cinnamon Hill course in Montego Bay on Tuesday to record his second consecutive victory on local soil.
Brown, who was in great form on the USA Carolina Series Pro Tour recently, picked up where he left off by shooting seven under par at the two-day event, with scores of 69 and 68 to win by nine strokes.
The Jamaican ace had last week won the Alliance Buccaneer Memorial Event at Caymanas Golf Club, carding 74 and 73 to finish on three over par.
A confident Brown said he was in great form at the moment. “I am playing really well, hitting the ball solidly, and my short game and touch game have improved thanks to my playing overseas,” he said.
Brown noted that the main improvement in his game, however, has been his mental strength. “I am now much stronger mentally and I approach the game systematically. I know how to handle the different courses and adjust my game.”
With his golfing season now closed, Brown said he will be back in action in Jamaica in January, but will open his overseas tour in February. “I am expecting even better things on the Carolina Series this year,” Brown noted.
Brown will next year play on the high-level USA Pro Series circuit following sterling play abroad. He had previously competed on the National Golfing Association (NGA) Carolina Series, which is a notch below the Pro Series, but due to his outstanding performances, had earned a shot at the higher-rated Pro Series.
The NGA Tour consists of several tours — Pro Series, Carolina Series and Winter Series.
Brown, a caddy at Sandals Golf and Country Club, is sponsored by Sandals Resorts International.
