SANTA (Seeing A Need, Taking Action), Jamaica’s premier and largest amateur golf charity tournament, which is held under the patronage of the British High Commissioner David Fitton, seeks to raise $2.5 million to help six needy charities.

The charities that will benefit from this year’s proceedings are Boys’ Town development Centre, The Wortley Home, Law Street Trade Training Centre, Mustard Seed, Peace & Love in Schools (PALS) and JSPCA.

The two-day golf charity tournament will be held at the Constant Spring Golf Club on December 6 and 7. The junior section, which will be held on the first day, will cater to all skill levels and will allow a maximum participation of 60 golfers up to 17 years old.

The prizes for the juniors will be small electronic devices, which include tablets, iPods, Xbox, Play Stations, etc. They will also receive gift certificates.

Day two, which is considered as the adult section, will be open to all adult golfers with a Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) registered handicap. Each adult player — with a maximum of 144 players — will get to play a full round of 18 holes. The main prizes are the coveted Facey Cup as well as a LED television set.

Registration is open at Yes Golf Shop and at the Constant Spring Golf Club. Entry fee, which includes meals, is $1,200 for adults and $4,000-$6,000 for juniors.

Speaking at the launch of the tournament at the Constant Spring Golf Club yesterday, Britney Singh of CB (Cecil Baswell) Facey Foundation, said that her company is happy to be on board as title sponsor for the second year in succession.

“This is the second in which the Pan Jam Group, through the CB Facey Foundation, has partnered with SANTA for the season of giving. We believe in supporting and investing in efforts that are built on partnerships for growth and development in Jamaica — whether it is through business or social improvement and SANTA represents one such effort.

“This golf tournament is not only known for its amazing gifts, but the SANTA brand is a snapshot of what the outcome of solid partnership and collaboration for social investment in Jamaica can look like and so we are proud to be a part of this endeavour as title sponsor as it is for a worth cause,” Singh said.

Peter Chin, president of the JGA, said that he is hoping for a successful tournament this year.

“This tournament is indeed a premier event on the golf calender. Annual SANTA has raised money to help different charities and it is no different this year. SANTA has distributed over $25 million in money, time, equipment and materials to over 18 different charities since 2001.

“I extend my best wishes to this tournament and hope that we achieve our goal and that this will be a rain-free tournament next weekend,” he said.

Meanwhile, Keith Sangster, chairman for the charity, The Wortley Home, welcomed the support from sponsors and encouraged everyone to come out for what will be an exciting day of golfing.
