MoBay-Arnett clash highlights midweek fixture
FANS of the Red Stripe Premier League will be treated to five midweek matches as the end of the first round approaches.
In what promises to be a highly tantalising affair beginning at 3:00 pm, the reigning champions Montego Bay United welcome Arnett Gardens FC to WesPow Park in St James.
Both teams have a reputation of playing attractive, attacking football, and so spectators could be in for an entertaining afternoon.
Montego Bay, who started the season slowly, have gradually moved into sixth place with 13 points from eight outings. Arnett Gardens, semi-finalists from last season, are in fourth with 14 points from nine games.
Also at 3:00 pm, last-placed Barbican FC — for the first time this season — will turn out in the comfort of their home base at the Barbican Complex. The visitors will be former champions Tivoli Gardens, who are eighth in the standings with 11 points from nine matches.
Barbican, in the top flight for the first time, have had a difficult start to the season and have six points from nine matches.
The Barbican team has been using the University of the West Indies Mona Bowl to host matches, while they carried out renovation at their own venue.
In another 3:00 pm kick-off, Reno FC, fresh from their triumph in the Champions Cup KO final, will travel to Clarendon to battle Sporting Central Academy at Juici Park. Reno are fifth with 14 points, while Sporting Central are ninth with 10 points.
At 4:00 pm, seventh-placed Rivoli United (11 points) entertain 10-placed Boys’ Town FC (eight points) at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
In the 5:00 pm start at the Effortville Community Centre, the hosts Humble Lion square off with Harbour View FC. Humble Lion are second to last with seven points, while Harbour View are second with 17.
Leaders Waterhouse FC, comfortably perched on 23 points and heavily tipped to top the first round, and third-placed Cavalier SC (17 points) are inactive today.
