Dynamites edge Titans in JPL Twenty20
University Dynamites edged Spanish Town Titans via the Super Over method in the enthralling TEF-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) Twenty20 (T20) opening game at Chedwin Park yesterday.
In a game reduced to 17 overs a-side after overnight rain wet the field and delayed the start to play, the Dynamites batted first and made 122-4. Gavin Wallace starred with 72 not out from 46 balls. He hit four sixes and as many fours in his blistering.
Ravmon Powell and Oshane Walters contributed 20 each.
In reply, the Titans were restricted to 122-7 to leave the scores tied. Peat Salmon top scored with 32 and Darnel McCallum hit 31.Pacers Michael Bedward and Derval Green grabbed two wickets each. With the scores tied, the Super Over was used as the decider. The Dynamites sped to 10 runs for the loss of one wicket after the Titans were restricted to 6-2 off their over.

In the second game of the double-header at the Chedwin Park venue, Ocho Rios Chargers thrashed the Kingston Hurricanes by eight wickets.
Jermaine Harrison was the difference-maker for Ocho Rios Chargers with an undefeated 82 off 47 balls. His knocked helped the Chargers to victory with five overs and three balls remaining.
Earlier, the Hurricanes taking first strike, managed 124-5 off their allotted overs. Brian Clarke topscored with 48 and Bereston Reid chipped in with 42.
West Indies left-arm pacer Sheldon Cotterell, who recently returned from a groin injury, led the Chargers bowling with 2-21 off four overs.
In reply the Ocho Rios franchise made light work of the target and raced to 125-2. Harrison, who was in a destructive mood, blasted eight fours and half dozen sixes.
Meanwhile, in the lone game at Manley Horne Park in St Elizabeth, the hosts Mandeville Thunder beat MoBay Sixers by 12 runs.
