GC Foster, Los Perfectos in top-of-the-table clash
GC Foster College and Los Perfectos Football Club will be in a heated top-of-the-table clash in Zone B, when the final round of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Sherwin Williams-sponsored Women’s Premier League takes place today.
Both teams have already secured their spots in the two-leg semi-final round. However, the winner of the zone will face the Zone A runner-up in the semis.
GC Foster College (31 points) will enter the contest in the driver’s seat as they require only one a point to remain in the top spot. The St Catherine-based outfit are the only unbeaten team in the group, and their record of 10 wins and one draw indicates that getting by them will not be an easy task.
Despite going down 1-2 to their opponents in the Colourscape Knockout competition, the likes of leading scorers Kerall Whyte (seven goals), Roxine Salmon (four goals) and Semone Honeghan (four goals) will be seeking to continue their form that has pushed their team’s league tally to 47 goals, with three against.
Meanwhile, Los Perfectos FC (30 points), whose only loss in the league came against today’s opponents, will enter the encounter with that knockout victory in the back of their minds.
The Manchester-based team has a tally of 58 goals with 10 against, boasting four of the competition’s top goal scorers in Roheema ‘Pinky’ Bennett (nine goals), Shantel Thompson (six), Remona Hyde (five) and Shenika Williams (five), who will once again seek to turn the tables.
The other group games will see third-placed UWI Women’s (17 points), renewing their rivalry with sixth-placed Boys’ Town FC (five points), while fourth-placed Harbour View FC (15 points) will play away to cellar-dwellers Real Morant Strikers (two points). Fifth-placed St James Women’s Academy (11 points) will be out of action.
In Zone A, second-placed Arnett Gardens FC and third-placed Waterhouse FC are both locked on 20 points and will be hunting victory in their respective fixture in order to secure the runner-up spot to the semi-finals.
The ‘Junglists’, who currently boast a superior goal difference, will go up against cellar-dwellers Rangers FC (two points), while Waterhouse FC will do battle with sixth-place Olympic Gardens FC (seven points).
Group winners Barbican FC (31 points), who have already booked their semi-final spot, will welcome fourth-placed Trelawny Women’s FC (10 points). Fifth-placed Portmore Strikers FC (nine points) have already exhausted their fixture and will be out of action.
All games are scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
