VIDEO: Energising Young Minds
There’s something to be said about the formative years spent in high school. And for Sheree Martin, senior vice-president, customer and corporate services at Jamaica Public Service (JPS), her adolescence spent in the classrooms and walking the halls time at Convent of Mercy Alpha Academy, left her with much to say, long after graduation.
Looking to give back to the next generation at her alma mater, Martin, supported by her boss, JPS President and CEO Kelly Tomblin, proudly hosted a Jamaica Observer Salut! Applaud It-themed luncheon for 10 Alpha girls at the energy company’s corporate offices in New Kingston last Tuesday.
The young women, first- to sixth-form students, were joined at the table by their vice-principal Elcena Christie and administrative assistant Bibi Singh, as well as JPS Foundation Manager Nathelie Taylor and her colleague, Head of Economic Development Rhys Campbell.
Lunch proved to be a dynamic interactive experience for the teenaged students, who were invited to share their career ambitions and given inspirational guidance by Martin and her peers.
In-between forkfuls of marinated pasta tossed with slivers of smoked marlin, and entrées of roasted chicken breast and grilled coconut-glazed snapper from catering company Occasion Hospitality Services, the Alpha pupils were a study in concentration, absorbing pearls of wisdom given by both Martin and Tomblin.
Thursday Life takes you to the JPS Salut! Applaud It-catered lunch.
