Nesbeth declares Victory
DOZENS of supporters and well wishers turned up for the launch of reggae singer Nesbeth’s EP Victory at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston on Monday evening.
The five-track set, co-produced by the singer, was officially released on iTunes on Tuesday. It is distributed by Zojack Worldwide.
Nesbeth, whose given name is Greg Nesbeth, told the Jamaica Observer he hopes that his new EP will broaden his fan base and inspire the listeners.
“I want it to reach out across the world to people who have never heard of Nesbeth. In addition, I want to inspire people to stand up for what is right. I hope it can contribute to unity as the tracks were done just to do that,” he said.
“Reggae is internationally recognised as one of the foundations of popular music so it pains me the way I see it being treated on the world stage, so underrepresented! It feels like there’s an uprising on the way though, and I want be part of it,” he added.
The track listings are Jah Jah Handpick, Marijuana, Taste Victory, Even Tho and Hunda Lay Lay.
Signed to London-based Entertainment Soul Record earlier this year, Nesbeth said Mondays’ launch signifies the company’s investment in Jamaican culture.
Backed by the Rhythm 2000 band, Nesbeth performed several of the new tracks, as well as old favourites like Board House and Gunz Out.
Performances also came from Hezron, Nyshane and Nature.
Showing their support at the launch were reggae acts Prophecy and Lutan Fyah.
