Calabar, New Day meet in all-age schools football competition
DEFENDING champions Calabar will take on New Day as the second round of the 2014 Tastee Limited/ Salada Foods/Kingston and St Andrew All-Age and Junior High Schoolboys football competition continues this morning at Cling Cling Oval.
Match time is 11:30 am.
Three other matches are scheduled at the same venue — Seaward vs Melrose at 10:00 am, Maverly vs Windward Road at 1:00 pm and John Mills vs Swallowfield at 2:30 pm.
The teams are divided into two zones of four each, with the winners and runners-up advancing to the semi-finals knockout.
Zone One is being contested by former champions John Mills, Swallowfield, Seaward and Melrose, while defending champions Calabar, Windward Road, Maverly and New Day will do battle in Zone Two.
Meanwhile, in the preliminary round which ended recently, John Mills emerged winners of Zone One with nine points, followed by Calabar with four, while Norman Gardens and Braeton both finished with one point each.
Swallowfield topped Zone Two with seven points, followed by New Day on four, while Shortwood Practising and Constant Spring ended with two points each.
Zone Three was won by Maverly with seven points, Seaward got the better on goal difference over Cockburn Gardens as both teams finished with four points each, while Greenwich All-Age ended with one point.
Windward Road came out on top in Zone Four with seven points, followed by Melrose on three, while Mico Practising and Louise Bennett-Coverly tied with two points each.
