Alliance Buccaneer Golf Tournament tees off weekend
THE Alliance Buccaneer Memorial Golf Tournament was launched yesterday at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston.
The 19th staging of the tournament, which is Alliance’s seventh consecutive year of sponsorship, will tee off this Saturday and Sunday at the Caymanas Golf Club. Tee-off times are between 7:00 am and 1:00 pm each day.
The tournament features two different competitions running concurrently. One will be a two-day, 36-hole Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) qualifier, while the other to be played on Sunday will be a modified Stableford competition in the form of a charity fund-raiser for the Laws Street Trade Training Centre.
The objective for this year is to hand over in excess of $800,000, the figure that was paid over last year.
Peter Chin, president of title sponsor Alliance Investment Management, said the charity was a worthy one and that his company and the Buccaneers were pleased to be able to assist the institution.
According to tournament director, David Mais, golfers who will be on the course include pros Fabian Campbell, Wesley Brown, Ewan Peebles and Paul Warren.
Mais said that the course is not in the best shape, but is good enough to host a well-run tournament.
This year’s competition is being played in memory of five of Jamaica’s outstanding past national representatives: Milton ‘Buddy’ Josephs, Izette Rhone, Lenan Lennie Chin, John Fulford and Al Chong.
