Climate Change Division calls young logo designers
DESIGN Our Logo! is the call to any young artist and/or graphic designer under 25 years, who wish to participate in a worth while cause — combating Climate Change.
The Ministry of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change has launched a competition for participants between the ages of 12 and 25, to design a logo for the recently established, Climate Change Division (CCD).
The soon to be logo of this division should reflect the concrete steps being taken on a national level, to address and overcome climate change. The logo should also reflect the shared task of all involved, namely the Government, non-profit organisations and the general public, to tackle the challenges caused by climate change.
The work of the Climate Change Division is highly critical, considering Jamaica’s vulnerability as an island — prone for severe flooding and direct hurricane hits.
How then, could the role of the division and those involved be conceptualised into one logo?
This is the task of anyone who decides to enter the competition.
All entries must be the original work of the stated creator(s) and must also include a short description of the meaning of, as well as the motivation for the design.
There will be second and third place prizes, and the best entries of the competition will be compiled in an e-publication. Prizes also include trophies for the top three entries and an award will be given for the top three honourable mentions. A special prize will also be awarded to the secondary school with the most entries.
The final deliberations will be done by the Climate Change Selection panel, who will decide on the overall successful designer or designers of the winning logo. The unveiling will take place at an event to be scheduled. The CCD will sponsor the cost of travel for the successful individual/group and a representative of institution (if a secondary school wins) in the event that they are based outside of Kingston and St Andrew.
The winning logo and the name(s) of the person(s) who designed the logo will be displayed at the CCD’s head office in the ministry. It will also be utilised in branding the Climate Change Division and will be used on the website, stationery, posters, banners, and flyers.
The competition has been open since September 18 of this year and has been extended to February 20 of next year, so there is a lot of time to get the creative juice flowing.
