Under-20 Reggae Boyz off on CAC assignment
JAMAICA’S 20-man football team to the Central American and Caribbean Games departed the island yesterday for Mexico where the championship will be hosted.
Jamaica are drawn in Group A, alongside hosts Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras. Group B consists of Costa Rica, Haiti, Venezuela and Cuba.
Jamaica will play El Salvador tomorrow, Honduras on Thursday and Mexico on Saturday. Each team will play the other teams once in their group in a round-robin format, with the top two finishers advancing to the semi-final round.
Jamaica qualified to the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games by virtue of being a quarter-finalist in the 2013 Under-20 CONCACAF Championship.
Meanwhile, El Salvador qualified by placing third in the 2013 CAC games and Honduras were champions at those games.
The team, Jamaica’s national Under-20 unit, is coached by former senior head coach Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore.
