Black Thunder rides high on World Crisis
MONTEGO BAY, St James — VETERAN Montego Bay-based reggae artiste Black Thunder is now enjoying relative success with his latest single, World Crisis, which he hopes will propel him to international stardom.
He is now basking in the success of the song, which is enjoying heavy rotation on radio stations in France, Florida and locally.
“I have been in the business for a long time during which time I have done a lot of tours. But I believe that my career is now taking off on a higher level. World Crisis is giving me a big bounce. It is enjoying a lot of airplay on radio stations,” the roots rock reggae singer who is now in France, told the Jamaica Observer West during a telephone interview.
The reggae singer, whose given name is Cecil Taylor, has been on tour in Europe for the last three weeks.
He says his songs, which he describes as “spiritual message music,” have been well received during recent gigs in Austria on his current tour.
He expressed confidence that he will also get positive response from patrons during his upcoming appearances on shows in Belgium on November 15 and again in Paris on November 22.
Black Thunder, who is a native of Clarendon, but who has made Montego Bay his home since the early 1980s, has toured extensively during a career spanning close to three decades.
He has toured a number of countries, including US, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Greece, Senegal, Amsterdam, Gambia, Bermuda, Haiti, Canada, Grenada and Italy.
Since doing music professionally, Black Thunder has released several singles, including I And I Jah, It’s Better To Love, The Dollar It A Die and Reggae Warrior.
The reggae warrior’s strong message to critics of reggae music is that the genre will outlive them.
“Many people try to kill reggae, but they will die leaving reggae music. The music will continue to spread around the world and extend its life,” he said.
In the coming year, Black Thunder is eyeing the inking of a deal with American-based recording and entertainment company, Nobody Panic Entertainment, which he has worked with in the past.
