Wolmer’s, JC in Manning Cup semis
WOLMER’S Boys’ and Jamaica College secured their places in the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup semi-finals last week under very different circumstances.
The final Group H game between Wolmer’s Boys and St George’s College (StGC) was expected to be a closer affair than their Super Cup clash, but the final score was a similar 3-0 in favour of Wolmer’s. Jaheel Hyde once again proved to be StGC’s foil, scoring all three goals against the light blues. In the group’s earlier clash Calabar High and Haile Selassie High battled out an entertaining 3-3 draw.
Charlie Smith High are top of Group I after beating Norman Manley High 3-0. Bebeto McDonald, Kimani Orbourne and Norval Christie were all on target for their schools. Charlie Smith now have a one goal advantage over Innswood going into the group’s final set of games.
There was controversy and goals galore in the final set of games in Group J. Jamaica College advanced after blasting Denham Town 16-0, while Excelsior gave Super Cup finalists Holy Trinity High 12-0 shelling. Both set of games were played at relatively the same time at different venues with Excelsior and JC needing to progress on goal difference.
Hydel High kept their hopes of progression alive with a 2-0 win over Kingston College. Camperdown are still top of Group K, however, after beating St Jago 1-0 thanks to an Andre McCatty strike. Hydel will now have to beat Camperdown in the final game if they are to advance.
