STETHS, Clarendon College, Glenmuir and Dinthill reach daCosta Cup semis
SANTA CRUZ, Jamaica – Defending champions St Elizabeth Technical will continue the defence of their ISSA/Lime daCosta Cup after they qualified for the semi-finals with a 1-0 win over Petersfield High in their final quarterfinal round game in Santa Cruz today (November 5).
The daCosta Cup semi-finals set for November 21/22 will see Glenmuir facing Clarendon College in one game and STETHS taking on Dinthill Technical in the other.
Yesterday, STETHS who were facing a must win situation in Group R and were coming off a big loss to Jamaica College in the Lime Super Cup four days ago, rose to the occasion and turned back Petersfield High 1-0.
Donjay Smith scored his ninth goal since the start of the Inter-zone round, a first half penalty kick, to give STETHS the crucial points as they extended their season and qualified for the sixth straight daCosta Cup semi-final.
Clarendon College were expected to be pushed by Frome Technical who were seeking to return to the semi-finals but goals from Seigel Knight, Craighton Charlton, Dane Bennett and Kemoy Caruthers took the Jackie Walters coached team to an easy 4-1 win in Group S. Jermaine Clarke scored for Frome.
Glenmuir High, the 2012 champions won Group P after edging Old Harbour High 1-0 through a goal from Ricardo Dennis while Dinthill Technical turned back Kemps Hill High 2-0 with goals from Rudave Murray and Andre Beckford.
