Salt Marsh, Upsetters for Trelawny Major League final
DAVIS PEN, Trelawny — Major League champions Salt Marsh United and Upsetters scored sudden death penalty-kick wins in Sunday’s semi-finals of the Trelawny Football Association’s President’s Cup Knockout competition.
Salt Marsh United beat Prospect Links SC after they played out a 1-1 regulation and extra-time draw at Davis Pen, while Upsetters FC and Jackson Town also played out a 1-1 draw at Carey Park to force the spot kicks.
Salt Marsh and Upsetters will now meet in the final set for Thursday at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
At Davis Pen, Salt Marsh United, who will play in the Western Confederation Super League for the first time this season, had to come from behind to earn a draw against Prospect Link, who were given the lead in the first half through Ricardo Scott’s 32nd-minute goal.
Nickhoy Edwards responded in the 66th minute for Salt Marsh United as the teams played out the rest of regulation and extra time without adding to the score.
In the shoot-out, both teams were perfect up to the final round when Merrick Saunders missed for Prospect Links.
Travis Watson, Oshane Hunter, Ramone Brown, Anthony Knuckle, Patroy Waite, Tarrique Smith and Kayawani Harvey scored for Salt Marsh.
Tino Evans, Karon Williams, Onique Small, Dervin Miller, Ramone Lewis and Gregory Duncan all scored for Prospect Links.
At Carey Park, Jackson Town got an early lead when Kavard Huie sent them ahead in the seventh minute and Upsetters had to wait until the 80th minute when Oneil Samuels pulled them level.
The teams combined to take 18 penalty kicks as Samuels, Rasciva Miller, Richardo Richards, Kymar Hylton, Lindon Underhill, Donovan Reid and Richard McAnuff scored for Upsetters.
Ackeem McGrath, Giovannie Buckle, Donomic Brown, Ramone Gordon, Brandies Erskine and Leon Roberts scored for Jackson Town.
