Breast cancer awareness month
EACH October, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Yoplait activates their global campaign “Save Lids to Save Lives”, which raises awareness and money for the fight against breast cancer. Since 2007, Yoplait, through their local distributor Wisynco, has donated $4 million to the Jamaica Cancer Society to assist in the work they do and to offer free and subsidised screenings to women. Always championing a healthy lifestyle, Yoplait not only donates the money but also spreads the word about the importance of early detection in the treatment of breast cancer.
This year’s campaign is themed “Friends in the Fight Against Breast Cancer”, and Yoplait makes it easy for all Jamaicans to be a friend in the fight against breast cancer. For every 6oz tub of Yoplait purchased, between October 1 and November 15, 2014, $10 will be donated to the Jamaica Cancer Society.
October 17 marked World Mammography Day and activities were held both at the Jamaica Cancer Society and at Wisynco. The Jamaica Cancer Society provided free mammograms to the first 85 women and those who came after number 85 were able to access mammograms at a subsidised cost. Yoplait yogurt was also available for sampling and giveaways were done on site.
At Wisynco, both in Kingston and Montego Bay, festivities were underway celebrating the lives of those who succumbed to the disease as well as those who overcame. Employees were asked to wear pink, and a ‘best dressed’ competition was held. Betty Crocker cupcakes were on sale, the proceeds of which went directly to the Jamaica Cancer Society, in addition to the money raised from the sale of 6oz Yoplait tubs. All staff were educated about the importance of early detection and encouraged to spread the word and to continue making donations for the rest of October.
