Barbican, ‘Los P’ battle for women’s KO title
MID-SEASON champions Barbican Football Club will go in search of their second title this season when they face off with Los Perfectos Football Club in the final of the Sherwin Williams Colourscape Knockout competition today.
Both teams have maintained good attacking form and will be meeting for the first time this season, which should result in a keenly contested encounter. Barbican have been the most dominant outfit and are yet to be beaten in all competitions.
Armed with the competition’s leading goal-scorer in Tashana Vincent, who has a tally of 11 goals, the six-time league champions have scored an unprecedented 26 goals in two games, while maintaining a clean sheet.
Vincent hit the target seven times in Barbican’s 14-0 battering of Boys’ Town in the quarter-finals and four times in their 12-0 clobbering of her former club Portmore Strikers in the semis.
The 27-year-old prolific striker along with Shanique Smith, Tasheka Small and Shee-Ann Sergeant are expected to keep their opponents’ backline very busy.
The Manchester-based Los Perfectos will enter the contest as the underdogs having scored seven goals in three games, while conceding three. Despite being a less attacking force, the Duane James-coached girls, if not contained, could do some damage.
Roheema ‘Pinky’ Bennett (three goals) will lead the charge up front for Los Perfectos and should get some assistance from Shantel Thompson, Tiffany Robinson and national player Venecia Reid, who recently returned home with the senior team after failing in their bid to qualify for next year’s FIFA World Cup.
