Tennis Jamaica ordered to stage National Trials
A Supreme Court judge has ordered local tennis governing body Tennis Jamaica to hold trials by October 26, 2014 to select the national team for the upcoming ITF 12-and-under COTECC Team Masters tournament in Monterey, Mexico, November 1-7, 2014.
In a statement from Tennis Jamaica, the organising body said it is respectful of the court ruling and will hold the trials as ordered.
Tennis Jamaica encourages all the young players who will be invited to attend and play with their usual competitive spirit.
John Bailey, president of Tennis Jamaica, has stated that the court proceedings was an unfortunate development. “Whilst we do not agree with all the findings we respect the judge’s order and will act expeditiously and accordingly on her orders. We never imagined that this situation would have ended up in court, but it happened and we have learned from this experience and empathise with all the persons involved in this landmark case.”
The board of Tennis Jamaica states that its hardworking team of volunteers is committed to their mandate and will continue to develop the sport of tennis in Jamaica for all the young people.
“We remain unified to our cause and will continue to demonstrate that we are a fully democratic board with strong policies and procedures in place to guide and support all our decisions. Going forward we will continue to strengthen this area, as there is always work to be done for continuous improvement. The beautiful game of tennis is and will always be bigger than all of us,” the Board stated.
