Excitement builds as LIME Super Cup kicks off
EIGHT mouth-watering games across three venues are on today to kick off the much-anticipated LIME Super Cup Knockout competition in which 16 teams hunt the $1-million winning prize.
However, telecommunications provider LIME has reminded patrons that they must have tickets to enter the three venues for this weekend’s match-ups.
Tickets are free for all matches, but according to Carlo Redwood, LIME’s vice-president of marketing, entry to matches will be on a first-come-first-serve basis, and as such, he has implored fans to come early.
Distribution of tickets has been taking place at selected LIME stores in Montego Bay and Kingston. A portion of the tickets have also been allotted to each participating school.
Meanwhile, all-island champion Jamaica College (JC), who have already booked their spot in the urban Walker Cup Knockout final, meet Cornwall College in arguably the clash of round at Catherine Hall in St James scheduled for 6:00 pm.
These two teams are rich in history with JC being the most successful Manning Cup team with 25 titles, while Cornwall College have rattled up 11 crowns in the rural area daCosta Cup.
JC have brushed everything aside this season, so far winning all 10 games on the trot and could face their sternest test to date from an imperious Cornwall College aggregation that have won everything in sight also scoring 33 goals, while conceding two in eight games.
In the first of three games at Catherine Hall, Camperdown High of East Kingston tackle Dinthill High from St Catherine at 2:00 pm. Then Wolmer’s Boys’ take on St James High at 4:00 pm.
The competition will be in full swing at two other venues in Kingston at the National Stadium and Sabina Park, the home of Jamaica’s cricket.
The National Stadium will host three games with Hydel High versus Old Harbour High kicking off proceedings at 2:00 pm. Then at 4:00 pm, Denham Town High tackle St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS). The final game will pit high-riding St George’s College against Godfrey Stewart High from Westmoreland at 6:00 pm.
Meanwhile, Holy Trinity High who are located just across the road from Sabina Park, should feel at home when they welcome Clarendon College in what should feel like a home game at 3:00 pm.
Another Clarendon school will be in action at Sabina Park as Garvey Maceo High play Charlie Smith High at 5:00 pm.
