Ras Zacharri chooses love
REGGAE singjay Ras Zacharri is gearing up to release his fourth studio album called Love Over Hate.
According to the entertainer, like his previous works, the 13-track album contains messages about love, spirituality and strong social and political topics.
“I want people to just put in my CD and play on a Sunday or whenever they feel the need to. If they are going through a trying time, my music should be soothing. I do not record songs that persons will have to scan through before playing, because a particular song may not be fitting for a child. So everyone can listen and learn something from my songs,” he said.
He said he is guided by the musical examples of his uncle Buju Banton, Burning Spears, and Bob Marley.
In addition to the title track, Life, Want You for Myself, Watch, and Protect the Children are included on the set.
Love Over Hate will be released during the first quarter of next year and is being produced by Zacharri’s Shem Ha Boreh label and France’s My Name is Bond (MNIB) Productions.
The 35-year-old singjay said he learned a lot about the business being close Buju Banton.
“I stayed with him late some nights in the recording studios when he was recording Til Shiloh and Inner Heights albums. There I learned a lot from him about productions and songwriting. I was there when he wrote the lyrics to one of my favourite songs Close One Yesterday, which is a very inspirational track,” he said.
Zacharri, whose given name is Bogle Broadie, got started into music after he completed his studies at Vauxhall Secondary School in Kingston.
In 2000, he released his debut single Irish Moss under the moniker DJ Bogle. That same year, he, along with his cousin Aston ‘Payday’ Green, produced Buju Banton’s Whine Up and Gwaan. The following year, Zacharri migrated to Europe where he continued his recordings.
In 2009, he released his debut album called Herbsman. It featured collaborations with Luciano and Gregory Issacs called River Jordan and Knock Knock, respectively. Following on the heels of Herbsman was New Horizon in 2011 and Dub Roots in 2012.
