Cowboys manhandle champs at home, Broncos vs 49ers highlight Week 7
THE current Super Bowl champs the Seattle Seahawks, seldom lose a game on home turf. As a matter of fact, they seldom lose at all.
Well, this did not seem to impress the Dallas Cowboys who in spite of the champs’ awesome reputation and their deafening “12th man” (home crowd), turned up to play. And that they did. At the end of the day the scoreboard read Dallas 30-Seattle 23, and folks, believe me, it wasn’t that close, as the Cowboys administered a beat down of the Seahawks on both sides of the ball.
To the pundits, with the exception of my fellow tipster Andre Hutchinson, it was a foregone conclusion that the Seahawks would win easily and cover the 7.5-point JustBet point spread, against the usually inconsistent Dallas team. But Tony Romo and his “Boys” set out to prove us wrong from the get-go. In particular, one DeMarco Murray, a fearsome running back whose performance made him only the second running back in NFL history to have six straight 100 yards game to start the season. The only other man to accomplish this feat was the legendary Jim Brown back in the 1960s. The Cowboys are now 5-1 and are the first team outside the NFC West to win in Seattle since 2011. Could this big win mark the resurgence of America’s team? Only time will tell.
The Cowboys’ big win over the Seahawks wasn’t the only game in town in what is turning out to be a most exciting season. In the realm of upsets, the Browns 31-10 beating of the Steelers is worthy of mention. Then there was the Giants being shut out by the Eagles 27-0, which again raises the question: Can the Giants really be trusted? Then there was the 37-37 tie between the Panthers and the Bengals, a situation that seldom occurs. The Bengals could have won it as time expired in overtime, but Cincinnati’s kicker missed a very makeable 36-yard field goal. Then, to cap it all, the San Francisco 49ers paid a visit to the St Louis Rams on Monday night and after a somewhat shaky start, beat the Rams convincingly 31-17. 49ers’ QB Colin Kaepernick had over 300 yards passing and three touchdowns making it a very productive outing.
As we enter Week Seven, there are no undefeated teams, and only one winless team that just happens to be the hapless Oakland Raiders. There was a game last night as the other hapless team, the New York Jets, took on the resurging New England Patriots. My money was on the Patriots to take care of business. Some of my must-see games this week are: The Lions vs Saints, which could be shoot-out, the Bengals vs Colts, Packers vs Panthers, Chiefs vs Chargers and Cowboys vs Giants. But my game of the week is on Sunday night as the 49ers take on the Broncos in Denver. This one should be very interesting with one of the rising stars at the quarterback position, the 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick, taking on the wily veteran Peyton Manning.
And how did we do with our against-the-spread picks? It was a good week for all concerned, but Mark Archer again led the way with a 10-4 record, while Andre Hutchinson went 9-5, yours truly was 8-6 and Peter Lindo was 7-7. Hopefully we can keep this good run going and help you, the readers, to keep making money courtesy of our friends at JustBet sports betting.
Speaking of betting, some of you may have read about boxing champ Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather cashing in big time on the Denver Broncos’ Week Six win. Mayweather won approximately US$600,000 betting on the Broncos to cover the 7.5- point spread against the Jets. But the interesting thing is that Denver covering the spread was in doubt right up until the final moments of the game.
The Jets were trailing 24-17 late in the fourth quarter when Jets’ QB Geno Smith threw an interception which was returned for touchdown, making the final score 31-17. Had the final score stayed 24-17, the Broncos would not have covered the point spread and Mayweather, plus many others who bet on Denver, would have lost. That’s the importance of the point spread, folks.
