Michael Frater cops 2014 excellence award
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Sprinter Michael Frater is the recipient of the 10th annual Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence.
The award was announced by Bobby Pickersgill, who gave the keynote address on behalf of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller Thursday night during a ceremony at the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
Pickersgill and former Prime Minister PJ Patterson presented the award to Laurel Smith, a member of Frater’s management team, who represented the sprinter who was unable to attend due to an injury.
The Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence recognises the achievement of a sportsman or woman who displays a high level of humility, integrity, discipline, and other exemplary qualities while excelling in the field of sports.
Past winners include Aleen Bailey, Deon Hemmings, Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Deon Hemmings, cricketer Jimmy Adams, netballer Elaine Davis, and Dr Neil Gardener.
